I've been a backend developer in and around Philippine banks for about fifteen years — mostly Java, mostly on systems that were already old when I met them. My specialty, if I'm honest, is the seam between something written this decade and something written before I graduated: reconciliation jobs, batch windows, file interfaces nobody documented. It rewards patience and note-taking more than cleverness, which suits me. Outside work I build the kind of small projects that make my wife's family roll their eyes, then quietly use every week.
